As Deadline Approaches, Practice Fusion Shares Meaningful Use Stories

SAN FRANCISCOSept. 17, 2012 -- Practice Fusion, the nation's largest doctor-patient community, released two new case studies today that highlight the success of doctors using the company's free, web-based EMR system to attest for Meaningful Use. The stimulus program incentivizes providers up to $44,000 to adopt an EMR. With Practice Fusion's free system, even small practice doctors who might otherwise be unable to afford most vendors' high-cost EMR systems can reap the full benefits of this program.

As the Oct. 3 deadline to qualify for the full incentive approaches, small practice providers are looking for a quick path to Meaningful Use success. Practice Fusion, which can be live in under five minutes, has already helped physicians across the country to receive $35.5 million in government incentives. The two independent practices profiled have not only attested successfully but also avoided the large fees and slow implementation of other EMR vendors:

Dr. Samuel Berkman, Internal Medicine & Hematology
Never a computer whiz, Dr. Berkman had planned to retire from his private Beverly Hills practice once medical records went digital. Upon discovering Practice Fusion, however, he found "a new lease on life" for his office and an opportunity to both improve patient care and qualify for Meaningful Use incentives. With the help of his Practice Fusion Account Manager, Dr. Berkman has already received his first year of incentives—a total of $18,000—and is poised to receive the full $44,000.

Dr. Moataz Giurgius, Psychiatry
Dr. Giurgus couldn't believe his son, Shadee Giurgus, when told that Practice Fusion was completely free. Shadee took matters into his own hands by implementing the EMR and digitizing over 3,000 charts in his father's La Mirada, CA practice, completely clearing the once-stuffed filing racks. Today, Dr. Giurgius operates in a fully digitized practice and has just received his first Meaningful Use incentive check for $18,000.

"At Practice Fusion, we focus on the needs of the customer above all else, providing tools to bring busy doctors success in their practice." said Ryan Howard, CEO of Practice Fusion. "These stories demonstrate how easy that success can be with our help. These are two physicians who had little experience even using a computer who may have easily been written off by other vendors. And now they are on our EMR every day, earning incentives and improving patient care."
