PharmD course all set to begin

Pharm.D. awareness program was held at Manipal College of Pharmaceutical Sciences on 1st March 2008.

Earlier the PCI has selected 20 pharmacy institutions in India (Manipal College of Pharmaceutical Sciences is one among the 20 colleges in the proposal)and submitted the proposal to the Indian Ministry of Health and Family Welfare for their review and approval.

The Union health ministry has at last given the green signal for the introduction of Pharm.D course. Major prerequisites for starting the Pharm.D course included proper teaching and building infrastructure, tie-up with any 300-bedded hospital or own hospital and prior permission from the Pharmacy Council of India (PCI).

To maintain the quality of program PCI has approved an intake of only 30 students per batch.

The curriculum will include regular Pharmacy subjects as well as sufficient exposure in clinical pharmacy practices (Hospital rounds and partial Clinical training in 4th& 5th year and complete 1 year training in the hospital in last year of the course).
